Baseball Recap: Clyde Drops Highest Score of Season Against Willard

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Clyde). They were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Willard Crimson Flashes on Saturday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Fliers needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Jonathan Lantz made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Lantz was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Clyde let Brayden Olson and Karcen Garner run wild. Olson scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3, while Garner scored a run while going 2-for-2. Olson has become a key player for Clyde: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Mason Flewelling, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Clyde picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-6. As for Willard, they dropped their record down to 1-7 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Clyde will face off against Madison Comprehensive at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Fliers are facing the Rams at the right time seeing as the Rams are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Willard, they will welcome Vermilion at 4:45 p.m. on Monday.
