Baseball Recap: Gaston Victorious

Gaston was not the first on the board on Saturday, but they got there more often. They came out on top against the Amity Warriors by a score of 8-4. While the Greyhounds didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

The team relied heavily on Chase Oylear, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Tony Fern, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Oylear wasn't the only one making solid contact: Gaston kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Amity only managed five hits.

The win made it two in a row for Gaston and bumps their season record up to 5-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Amity, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gaston will challenge Knappa at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Loggers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Greyhounds' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Amity, they will square off against Santiam Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight.
