Basketball Recap: Alec Grill's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Maize over Shawnee Mission Northwest

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Maize couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They took a 63-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Shawnee Mission Northwest Cougars on Friday. The Eagles' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Maize's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alec Grill, who went 9-for-12 to rack up 22 points. The dominant performance also gave Grill a new career-high in field goal percentage (75%). Another player making a difference was Brayden Myovela, who shot 56% from the field en route to 13 points and six rebounds.

Maize's loss dropped their record down to 17-7. As for Shawnee Mission Northwest, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-4.
