Baseball Game Preview: Eaton Reds vs. Sterling Tigers

Eaton is 9-1 against Sterling since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Reds will head out to face off against the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. Eaton is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.

Last Thursday, Eaton beat Brush 6-2.

Eaton got a great performance from Gunnar Garrison as he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). Garrison has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Eaton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Nider, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that Nider launched this season. Jackson Denooy was another, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Sterling was a bit more limited in their matchup on Saturday. They lost 8-1 to Brush. The game marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Eaton pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Sterling, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-2.

Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Eaton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. However, it's not like Sterling struggles in that department as they've averaged .322. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Eaton was able to grind out a solid win over Sterling in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 5-0. Do the Reds have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
