Basketball Recap: Kelvyn Park Comes Up Short

Kelvyn Park was the 51-7 winner over Wells when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Kelvyn Park Panthers were beaten by the Wells Raiders 46-19 on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 544th, while the Raiders are ranked 209th).

Wells found their leader in freshman Ashanti Clark, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and ten rebounds. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Clark has scored at least a third of Wells' points. Another player making a difference was Jevae Brunson, who posted six points and five boards.

Kelvyn Park has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Wells, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Kelvyn Park Panthers challenge the Clemente Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Kelvyn Park is facing Clemente at the right time seeing as Clemente is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Wells, they will take on Farragut at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
