Softball Recap: Sotomayor Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Sotomayor, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Stevens Falcons on Friday. The WILDCATS haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Penelope Flores was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and only one walk). Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That double marked the first that she hit this season.

In other batting news, Anaya Maddox was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. London Echavarria was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Sotomayor was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Stevens only posted a batting average of .200.

Sotomayor's victory bumped their record up to 8-10. As for Stevens, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-16.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Sotomayor will challenge rival Taft at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Stevens is set to face off against their familiar foe Harlan at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
