Softball Recap: Ferguson Triumphs

After losing to Braddock the last time they met, Ferguson decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Falcons walked away with an 18-13 victory over the Bulldogs on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Falcons.

Zoe Villanueva was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Natalie Garcia was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with five stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Amaya Santamaria was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Ferguson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .526. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in four consecutive games.

Ferguson's record now sits at 6-10. As for Braddock, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season.

Ferguson will square off against St. Brendan at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Sabres have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. As for Braddock, they will be playing at home against Miami Beach at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hi Tides have averaged an impressive 11.1 runs per game this season.
