Volleyball Recap: Morenci Takes a Loss

Morenci suffered their biggest defeat since September 16th on Tuesday. They lost 3-0 to the Willcox Cowboys. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Cowboys this season, with their most recent loss being a 3-1 defeat back in September.

Morenci was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-8, 25-22, 25-19.

Madilynn Clark paced Morenci's offense, picking up six kills. Clark got some help from Leayla Mendez-Garcia and her six assists. Ava Basteen controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Morenci dropped their record down to 9-10 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Willcox, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-5.

Morenci has already played their next contest (against Santa Rita), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Willcox, they have also already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Miami on the 9th.
