For the first time all season, there's a new No. 1 after Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) beat former No. 1 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) 17-14 in the CIF Southern Section Division I title game. The win avenges a regular season 41-18 beating by the Braves and puts the Monarchs at No. 1 in four of the five polls used by the Top 25 Composite rankings.
Warren Central (Indianapolis) climbs into the Top 10 at No. 8 after its 27-7 Indiana state title win over Carmel.
Only schools recognized by two or more media outlets are eligible for
inclusion in the composite rankings. Teams were assigned a score of 40
for each media outlet that did not recognize them as part of their Top
25, rewarding teams that received consensus acclaim.
Allen sits at No. 4 in the Top 25 Composite rankings and has a shot at No. 1 if it can navigate the Texas UIL playoffs.
