Softball Recap: Mishawaka Extends Winning Streak to Six

Mishawaka came tearing into Friday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the NorthWood Panthers by a score of 9-4. This was a revenge game for the Cavemen: when they faced off against the Panthers back in April, they had to take a 5-2 loss.

Camila Rameriz made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than 13 strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shea Crawford, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. Khloe Hershey was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.

Mishawaka's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-5. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for NorthWood, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-8.

Coming up, Mishawaka will venture away from home to face off against Elkhart at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Cavemen will need to watch out since the Lions have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matches. As for NorthWood, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Plymouth at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pilgrims/Rockies have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
