Baseball Recap: Sacopee Valley Takes a Loss

Sacopee Valley dropped down to 4-3 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Freeport Falcons, falling 15-5. The Hawks were not able to make up for their loss to the Falcons from their previous meeting back in April of 2017.

Silas Nielsen made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season.

As for Freeport, they now have a winning record of 4-3. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Freeport's side, Sam Walker was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Walker has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bryson Jack, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Freeport's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-3 when he doesn't). Andrew Thomas was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Sacopee Valley will welcome Old Orchard Beach at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Seagulls will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Hawks surely won't give up without a fight. As for Freeport, they will head out to square off against York at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
