Baseball Recap: Atascadero Find Success

Templeton typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Atascadero proved too difficult a challenge. They skirted past the Eagles 2-1. This was a revenge game for the Greyhounds: when they faced off against the Eagles back in March, they had to take a 4-0 loss.

Damon Mitchell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on seven hits. He is becoming a predictor of Atascadero's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 5-11 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Weston Witt was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Uly Kaul, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.

Atascadero's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-11. As for Templeton, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 13-10 record.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Eagles beat Atascadero by a score of 12-9 on Thursday.
