Baseball Recap: Rogers Falls Short of Collinsville in the Playoffs

Rogers and Collinsville squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Rogers had to settle for second. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 5-2 to the Panthers, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-2 on Friday.

Bo Mitchell made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one run and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Rogers' success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 5-1 (and 10-15 when he doesn't).

Rogers has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-16 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Collinsville, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 20-7.

While Rogers had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
