Softball Recap: Calallen Drops Season-High Score on Zapata

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Calallen). They never let the Zapata Hawks get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory on Tuesday. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Hawks recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Jordyn Thibodeaux made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kiana Vargas was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brookelynn Meador, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple.

Calallen was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .355 or higher in six consecutive matches.

Calallen pushed their record up to 18-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Zapata, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-12-1.

Looking ahead, Calallen is taking a road trip to take on Robstown at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Robstown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season. As for Zapata, they will be playing at home against Tuloso-Midway at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
