Softball Recap: Incarnate Word Academy Finds Playoff Glory Versus St. Francis Episcopal

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Incarnate Word Academy had no problem doing just that on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the St. Francis Episcopal Wolves a 16-0 shutout. Considering the Angels have won 17 games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Arisela Perez was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Perez was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Harper Phillips was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maddie Taylor, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

Incarnate Word Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .786. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Incarnate Word Academy's victory bumped their record up to 22-4-1. As for St. Francis Episcopal, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
