Baseball Game Preview: Desert Oasis Diamondbacks vs. Bishop Gorman Gaels

Desert Oasis hasn't had much luck against Bishop Gorman recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Diamondbacks will take on the Gaels at 4:00 p.m. Desert Oasis' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Bishop Gorman's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Desert Oasis had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Spring Valley on Thursday. The Diamondbacks' pitchers stepped up to hand the Grizzlies an 11-0 shutout. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Diamondbacks' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Aidan Smith was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Lincoln Guillermo, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Desert Oasis was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March.

Meanwhile, Bishop Gorman faced Faith Lutheran in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Gaels walked away with a 4-0 win over the Crusaders.

Noah Ramos looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nolan Eberwein, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Desert Oasis is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Bishop Gorman, their record now sits at 15-9.

Desert Oasis couldn't quite finish off Bishop Gorman when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 7-5. Can the Diamondbacks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
