Softball Recap: Wayland-Cohocton Snaps Ten-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Wayland-Cohocton dropped their record down to 16-3 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Avon Braves. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Braves apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2021.

As for Avon, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games.

For Avon's part, Jessie Crye spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on one hit and racked up 12 Ks. Crye has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kyleigh DeRider, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylie Miller, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Wayland-Cohocton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Avon, they will head out on the road to challenge Wellsville at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Lions will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something the Braves surely won't give up without a fight.
