Baseball Game Preview: Laney Buccaneers vs. Hoggard Vikings

Laney and Hoggard are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Buccaneers will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Vikings at 6:30 p.m. Laney will be looking to extend their current 11-game winning streak.

Laney saw some tournament action on Wednesday. They walked away with a 9-4 victory over Uwharrie Charter Academy.

The team relied heavily on TJ Ziermann, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Owen Gore was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Pinecrest hit Hoggard with a nine-run first inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Vikings lost 11-5 to the Patriots.

Christian Atkinson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Bair Kuneyl also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Hoggard has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 1.89 runs. As for Laney, their win was their tenth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-4.

Laney came out on top in a nail-biter against Hoggard in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 6-4. Will the Buccaneers repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
