Basketball Recap: Montgomery County Takes a Loss

Montgomery County was the 75-16 winner over Hawkinsville when they last played one another back in December of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. The Montgomery County Eagles took a blow against the Hawkinsville Red Devils on Friday, falling 61-21. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-7.

Hawkinsville had a senior duo take command as Kyla Slocumb almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine steals and Myah Brown went 6 of 14 en route to 19 points along with six rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Slocumb has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alicia Newman, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten boards.

Montgomery County dropped their record down to 2-17 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight at home. As for Hawkinsville, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 4-13 record.

Montgomery County won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Metter at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Metter will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Montgomery County surely won't give up without a fight. As for Hawkinsville, they will also get right back to it: they'll challenge Turner County at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
