Softball Game Preview: Cheyenne Desert Shields vs. Mater Academy East Las Vegas Knights

The Cheyenne Desert Shields will challenge the Mater Academy East Las Vegas Knights at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Cheyenne has given up an average of 13.9 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Cheyenne is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 21 runs on Friday, they were much more limited against Del Sol on Tuesday. They lost 18-1 to the Dragons.

Virgin Valley typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Mater Academy East Las Vegas proved too difficult a challenge. They had just enough and edged out the Bulldogs 9-8. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Knights.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas' victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Cheyenne, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.

Cheyenne suffered a grim 21-6 defeat to Mater Academy East Las Vegas when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Desert Shields avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
