Middleburg hasn't had much luck against Ponte Vedra recently, but that could start to change on Friday. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Middleburg will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating Orange Park, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Broncos blew past the Raiders 28-0 last Friday. The Broncos' victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
It was another big night for Gino Addison, who rushed for 173 yards and three scores while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. Another rusher making a difference was Travis Pinkard, who rushed for 113 yards on only 12 carries.
Middleburg didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Orange Park to a completion percentage of just 50%. The Broncos weren't nearly as limited: they posted one of 33.3%.
Meanwhile, Ponte Vedra made easy work of Fleming Island last Friday and carried off a 35-9 win. Given the Sharks' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 40th, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 144th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ponte Vedra had a senior duo take command as Jack Berquist picked up 101 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns and Cole Rosendahl threw for 174 yards and two TDs. Rosendahl's passing game has become a key predictor of the Sharks' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise.
Ponte Vedra's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB four times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Reece Beck, JP Dolan, and Hudson Hauseman, who each picked up one sack apiece. Ponte Vedra got some further help from Talan Babin: he made 13 total tackles (1.0 for loss).
Middleburg's victory bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Ponte Vedra, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.
