Baseball Recap: Whitmer Comes Up Short

Whitmer extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 1-12 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Northview Wildcats. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Elijah Mcgee was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over 6.1 innings pitched.

At the plate, Whitmer saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dom Arent, who went 2-for-4 with one double. Mitchell Rose also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

As for Northview, their victory bumped their record up to 7-10. The game was the first time they have beaten Whitmer on their field since May 15, 2018.

On Northview's side, the result came thanks to Roman McKarus's shutout, as he gave up just five hits. McKarus also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Wildcats are 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-8 otherwise.

While Whitmer had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
