Softball Game Preview: Phillips Wildcats vs. Dunbar Mightymen

The Phillips Wildcats will head out to face off against the Dunbar Mightymen at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Phillips knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully Dunbar likes a good challenge.

Phillips made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Julian, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Wildcats fell just short of the Jaguars by a score of 12-10 on Tuesday. The Wildcats have struggled against the Jaguars recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Welnesha Hall made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Kayla Nolan was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Meanwhile, Dunbar came up short against Hubbard on Tuesday and fell 8-3. The Mightymen have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Dunbar's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Phillips, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.

Phillips took their win against Dunbar in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 15-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
