Basketball Recap: Sumter Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Sumter can now relate to. The contest between the Gamecocks and the Cane Bay Cobras didn't end well, with the Gamecocks falling 71-57. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Gamecocks of the 54-46 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2025.

Leading Cane Bay to victory were Jamel McKinley and Jackson Lilly. McKinley shot 50% from the field en route to 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals, while Lilly posted 14 points. That's the most points Lilly has posted since back in December of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristan Ford, who put up ten points.

Sumter's defeat dropped their record down to 18-10. As for Cane Bay, they pushed their record up to 23-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Sumter does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Cane Bay, they will head out to take on West Ashley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cobras will need to watch out since the Wildcats have now posted at least 55 points in their last three matchups.
