Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Brighton

Brighton had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They walked away with a 63-54 victory over the Erie Tigers. This was payback for the Bulldogs, who suffered a 68-38 loss the last time these two teams met.

Brighton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Vance Martinez led the charge by going 9-for-13 en route to 21 points along with five assists and five boards. Martinez continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Austin Sickler was another key player, going 6-for-7 on his way to 16 points.

When it comes to explaining why Erie lost, don't look at Garrett Owen. Despite the final result, he went 8-for-16 to rack up 21 points. That's the most points Owen has posted since back in January. Another player making a difference was Christopher Smith, who earned nine points and five rebounds.

Brighton pushed their record up to 14-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points over those games. As for Erie, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-10.

Brighton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Erie, they have already played their next game, a 51-50 loss against Horizon on the 21st.
