Volleyball Recap: Grand Canyon Comes Up Short

Grand Canyon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against the Ash Fork Spartans, falling 3-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in September.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-6, 25-9.

Denaya Smith paced Grand Canyon's offense, picking up two kills. Smith got some help from Ellanina Nancasia and her two assists. Katalina McClellan controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Aura Mendez was the offensive standout of the contest as she had 14 digs.

Grand Canyon's loss dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Ash Fork, their win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-5.

Grand Canyon has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 defeat against Joseph City on the 24th. As for Ash Fork, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Music Mountain on the 21st.
