El Cajon Valley extended their losing streak to nine on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-9. They came up short against the Mount Miguel Matadors, falling 19-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Matadors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-3 back in March.
El Cajon Valley saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sa'Mari Thomas, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. Osmara Serna also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.
As for Mount Miguel, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-13. The game marked their most dominant win of the season.
On Mount Miguel's side, Gabriella Sanchez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off eight hits. Sanchez was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ysabella Enriquez was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Lucy Talbot, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with five stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. El Cajon Valley will welcome Monte Vista at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mount Miguel, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Helix at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Matadors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Scotties have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season.
