Baseball Recap: Sayre Takes a Loss

Sayre extended their losing streak to five on Wednesday, dropping them down to 1-5. They lost 17-1 to the Athens Wildcats. The Redskins were not able to make up for their defeat to the Wildcats from their previous meeting back in April of 2025.

As for Athens, they pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won three games by seven runs or more so far this season.

For Athens' part, Brendan Cooke was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most RBI Cooke has posted since back in March of 2025. Kamdyn Wheeler also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Sayre is set to square off against their familiar foe Wellsboro at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Athens will challenge rival Williamson at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
