Basketball Recap: Jasmin West's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Atrisco Heritage Academy over Manzano

Atrisco Heritage Academy was the 64-39 winner over Manzano when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Atrisco Heritage Academy Jaguars took a hard 60-46 fall against the Manzano Monarchs on Saturday. The Jaguars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Atrisco Heritage Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jasmin West, who went 8 of 18 on her way to 17 points along with seven boards and three steals. What's more, West also racked up three blocks, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Destiny Yapor was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to nine rebounds and four steals.

Even though they lost, Atrisco Heritage Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Leading Manzano to victory were Zaria Gomez and Daira Solis. Gomez went 8 for 18 en route to 22 points along with six boards and five steals, while Solis went 7 of 15 on her way to 17 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists. Gomez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 15 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Sagelyn Devore, who posted five points and six boards.

Atrisco Heritage Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Manzano, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

Atrisco Heritage Academy has already played their next matchup, a 67-17 loss against Albuquerque on the 21st. Manzano has also already played their next contest (against Eldorado), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
