Baseball Recap: Long Beach Poly Takes a Loss

Long Beach Poly was the 2-1 winner over Lakewood when they last played one another back in March, but their luck changed this time around. The Jackrabbits fell just short of the Lancers by a score of 7-6 on Wednesday. That's two games in a row now that the Jackrabbits have lost by just one run.

Long Beach Poly got a good showing from Ryan King, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.

On the hitting side, Will Trunnelle was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Fausto Gaxiola III also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Long Beach Poly and nudges their season record down to 14-9. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only one runs. As for Lakewood, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-15 record this season.

Long Beach Poly will square off against Cabrillo at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Jackrabbits' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Jaguars have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Lakewood, they will challenge Compton at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
