Softball Recap: Mountain Heritage Takes a Loss

Mountain Heritage dropped their record down to 5-10 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 12-2 to the Draughn Wildcats. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 4-3.

Mountain Heritage saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sydney Styles, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for Draughn, their record is now 13-9. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

On Draughn's side, Avie Helton made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Helton was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lindsey Hensley, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Maria Medrano, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Mountain Heritage and Draughn are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Cougars will square off against Swain County at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Maroon Devils' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so Mountain Heritage's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Draughn, they will take on Leadership Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats are facing the Falcons at the right time seeing as the Falcons are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
