Softball Recap: Pontotoc Takes Down Cleveland Central in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Pontotoc rose to the challenge on Saturday. They blew past the Cleveland Central Wolves 13-3. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Warriors also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2022.

Olivia Galloway and Star Williams made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Galloway pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Williams didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Galloway has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. At the plate, Galloway went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and three runs, while Williams went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave Williams a new career-high.

In other batting news, Emarie Boddie was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Kelsy Spears was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Pontotoc kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matches.

Pontotoc pushed their record up to 17-10 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Cleveland Central, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 23-6.

Pontotoc will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Wolves: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
