Baseball Game Preview: Saint Mary's Panthers vs. De Anza Dons

For the second straight game, Saint Mary will face off against De Anza. The Panthers will challenge the Dons at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Saint Mary's is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.

Saint Mary's took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against De Anza as they made off with an 11-2 victory. The Panthers not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 2nd (when they won 14-3).

Ashton Riley looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2025.

On the hitting side, Logan Donoviel was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. He has become a key player for Saint Mary's: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Cullen Baenen was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Saint Mary's was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as De Anza only posted a batting average of .045.

De Anza is on a 16-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-15. As for Saint Mary's, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.

De Anza's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Saint Mary's has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.4 strikeouts per game.
