Softball Recap: Swansboro Comes Up Short

Swansboro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Dixon Bulldogs. If the Pirates were looking for revenge after losing 9-5 to the Bulldogs when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Addison McMillan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits.

At the plate, Payton Jensen made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Swansboro now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Dixon, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 6-7.

Coming up, Swansboro will look to defend their home field on Friday against Croatan at 6:00 p.m. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so the Pirates' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Dixon, they will head out on the road to take on Topsail at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
