Baseball Recap: Springfield Comes Up Short

Springfield lost a heartbreaker to Sacred Heart-Griffin when they met back in April of 2024, and they left with a heavy heart again on Saturday. The Senators fell just short of the Cyclones by a score of 6-5. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 22, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Brody Scheffler was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Wade Snyder was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Springfield's loss dropped their record down to 8-16. As for Sacred Heart-Griffin, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 19-8.

Springfield and Sacred Heart-Griffin could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Senators (ranked 298th) will meet Rochester (ranked 69th) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Sacred Heart-Griffin will square off against O'Fallon at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (81 vs. 20).
