Soccer Game Preview: Highlands vs. Mesa Verde

The Highlands Scots will head out to challenge the Mesa Verde Mavericks at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Highlands is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 4.4 goals per game this season.

Highlands took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They never let Rio Vista onto the board and left with a 4-0 victory. The Scots better thank their lucky stars for the performance of Nevaeh Cortez, as she scored every single goal for her team.

Meanwhile, Mesa Verde was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost 4-0 to Lindhurst. While losing is never fun, the Mavericks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 1127th, while the Blazers are ranked 482nd).

Mesa Verde's defeat dropped their record down to 0-8-1. As for Highlands, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.

Everything went Highlands' way against Mesa Verde when the teams last played back in December of 2024, as Highlands made off with an 8-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Highlands since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
