Softball Game Preview: Douglas Bulldogs vs. Sahuarita Mustangs

Douglas is 1-9 against Sahuarita since February of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. Douglas will host Sahuarita at 4:00 p.m. This will be Douglas' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.

Douglas is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 11 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Mica Mountain on Friday. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Thunderbolts. The match marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Meanwhile, Sahuarita entered their tilt with Rio Rico on Thursday with ten consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 11. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Hawks a 10-0 shutout. Give the Mustangs' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.

Jayd Villa was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Emily Donia, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Sahuarita hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in five consecutive games.

Sahuarita's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Douglas, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-4.
