League recap: Central Davidson rises in state rank

3A Conference 9 recap October 8, 2013

Central Davidson moved up to 218 from 264 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A Conference 9. The Spartans were able to move up by beating Ledford 32-28.

Southern Guilford was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from sixth to fourth in the league. Earlier in the week, the Storm defeated Western Guilford 42-7.

Josh Brennan provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Southwestern Randolph lost to Asheboro. Brennan's favorite target this week was Wil Shephard, who caught 2 passes for 48 yards.

Brennan was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 20 carries, he ran for 163 yards as the Cougars fell to Southern Guilford. Teammate Ray Hoskie added to the ground attack by rushing for 51 yards.

Western Guilford's Tevan Evans and Stevens have formed a dream team this season, leading 3A Conference 9 in both passing and receiving yards. 5-10 quarterback Evans has thrown for 811 yards this season, while Stevens has 28 catches for 458 yards. Reggie Gallaspy from Darryl Brown's team leads the league in rushing with 971 yards.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Ledford takes on second place Asheboro. The Panthers fell to Central Davidson last week, while the Blue Comets topped Southwestern Randolph.

Gallaspy of the the Storm is just 29 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 160 carries Gallaspy has accumulated 971 yard this year.

Chris Causey's team lost to Southern Guilford 42-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Stevens was a bright spot for the Hornets, as he caught 6 passes for 127 yards in the defeat.
