Basketball Recap: Opelika Takes a Loss

Opelika was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They received a blow as they fell 49-34 to the Lanett Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 263rd, while the Panthers are ranked 130th).

Leading Lanett to victory were MaKiah White and Jaylin White. MaKiah dropped a double-double on 22 points and 17 boards, while Jaylin dropped a double-double on 11 points and 17 boards. The dominant performance gave MaKiah a new career-high in points.

Opelika's loss dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Lanett, they pushed their record up to 7-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Opelika will head out to challenge Smiths Station at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Opelika is facing Smiths Station at the right time seeing as Smiths Station is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Lanett, they will venture away from home to face off against LaFayette at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lanett will also cruise into their next contest with the timing on their side: LaFayette will have lost 14 straight heading into Friday's match.
