Football Recap: SouthLake Christian Academy Takes a Loss

SouthLake Christian Academy extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 2-6. They took a blow against the Hickory Grove Christian Lions, falling 41-12. The Eagles were not able to make up for their defeat to the Lions from their previous meeting back in September of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why SouthLake Christian Academy lost, don't look at Malachi Gwyn. Despite the final result, he rushed for 91 yards and one score. Elijah Copeny got in on the action as well, returning a kick for a touchdown.

As for Hickory Grove Christian, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-1. Considering they have won five matchups by more than 26 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Hickory Grove Christian can attribute much of their success to Chris Bryant, who rushed for 39 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Those 39 rushing yards gave Bryant a new career-high.

Looking ahead, SouthLake Christian Academy will face off against Asheville School (Independent) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Gwyn and Marvyn Larozar. As for Hickory Grove Christian, they will take on High Point Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Lions 14.3, the Cougars 12.2) so any points scored will be well earned.
