Softball Recap: South Anchorage Gets the Win

With a playoff win on the line, South Anchorage rose to the challenge on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-9 victory over the Chugiak Mustangs. The Wolverines haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Millicent Wurst spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Adriana Jones, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Molly Stone, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and one double.

South Anchorage's victory bumped their record up to 16-6. As for Chugiak, their defeat dropped their record down to 22-7.

South Anchorage has already played their next game, an 8-2 win against Colony on the 7th. As for Chugiak, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, an 11-6 victory against Dimond on the 7th.
