Basketball Recap: Laikyn Davenport Key Part of a Team Effort in Panthers Win

Animas won the last time they faced Cobre and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Animas Panthers walked away with a 50-42 win over the Cobre Indians. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Animas to victory, but perhaps none more so than Laikyn Davenport, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Davenport has scored at least a third of Animas' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Haley Elias, who posted ten points in addition to six steals and five boards.

Animas smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in nine consecutive matchups.

Animas is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. As for Cobre, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

Animas will have a chance to go back-to-back against Cobre: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
