Softball Recap: Coastal Academy's Win on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Coastal Academy entered their tilt with Francis Parker on Monday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. They put the hurt on the Lancers with a sharp 10-3 victory. The Stingrays might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.

Therese Frazer made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Frazer was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Cayla Contreras and Ava Alvarez did most of the damage at the plate: Contreras went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Alvarez went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits Contreras has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sunday Mcduffee, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Coastal Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Francis Parker only posted an OBP of .323.

Coastal Academy's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Francis Parker, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season.

Coastal Academy will take on Vista at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.17 runs per game on average), something the Stingrays will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Francis Parker, they will face off against Bishop's at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Lancers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season.
