Baseball Recap: Vance County Takes a Loss

Vance County extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 36 on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-18 in the process. They lost 10-0 to the South Granville Vikings. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, with their most recent defeat being a 19-3 loss two weeks ago.

As for South Granville, the victory got them back to even at 9-9. Considering they have won six matchups by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

For South Granville's part, Evan Olson-Thornburg was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over 4.2 innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave Olson-Thornburg a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. South Granville is undefeated when Olson-Thornburg posts two or more runs, but 2-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Greyson Vacher, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Noah Edwards was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Vance County wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 19-3 loss against Southern School of Energy and Sustainability on the 25th. As for South Granville, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 3-2 win against Louisburg on the 22nd.
