Football Recap: Yoakum Triumphs

Yoakum took a 25-point defeat the last time they faced off against Columbia, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bulldogs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 23-21 win over the Roughnecks on Friday. For the Bulldogs, this counts as revenge for the 46-21 victory the Roughnecks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2024.

Despite the loss, Columbia still got an impressive performance from Logan Lewis, who picked up 136 receiving yards and three scores. Lewis really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 84 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Cade Thoe, who threw for 105 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only nine passes.

Yoakum's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 30.3 points over those games. As for Columbia, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Yoakum will venture away from home to take on Hyde Park at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Columbia, they will head out to square off against Wharton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Roughnecks will need to watch out since the Tigers have now posted at least 31 points in their last three matches.
