Baseball Recap: Atholton Victorious

Atholton took a nine-run loss the last time they faced off against Mt. Hebron, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Raiders had just enough and edged out the Vikings 4-3. For the Raiders, this counts as revenge for the 10-1 victory the Vikings walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Noah Weinig was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Atholton's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 0-4 when he doesn't).

In other pitching news, Brody Pope tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Atholton is 2-1 when Pope allows one or fewer earned runs, but 2-4 otherwise.

Back at the plate, Atholton let Josh Meadows and Thomas MacKenzie run wild. Meadows scored a run while going 2-for-3, while MacKenzie went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. MacKenzie is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played.

The win made it two in a row for Atholton and bumps their season record up to 4-5. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch. As for Mt. Hebron, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Coming up, Atholton will challenge Dulaney at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mt. Hebron, they will face off against Marriotts Ridge at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
