Baseball Recap: Denver City Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Win

Denver City never let their opponents score on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Lamesa Tornadoes with a sharp 10-0 victory. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.

Not much got past Andres Ornelas, who gave up just a hit and racked up six Ks to keep Lamesa off the board. Ornelas has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Daniel Gonzales, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Gavin Garcia was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Denver City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lamesa only posted an OBP of .100.

The win was the sixth in a row for Denver City, bringing their record up to 11-3. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lamesa, they dropped their record down to 6-7 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.
