Basketball Recap: The Academy Find Success

The Academy's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 49-47 win over the Skyline Falcons. For the Wildcats, this counts as revenge for the 55-46 victory the Falcons walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2022.

Adrian Gurerro was the offensive standout of the matchup as he went 6-for-8 en route to 16 points and five steals. Those 16 points gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Preston Howe, who posted eight points.

Skyline's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Thomas Martinez-Hernandez, who earned 18 points along with five assists and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Morris, who scored nine points in addition to five boards and three steals.

The Academy now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Skyline, their loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2.

The Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 58-44 defeat against Brighton on the 6th. As for Skyline, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 63-58 loss against Mountain View on the 6th.
