Soccer Game Preview: Horizon vs. Monarch

Horizon is 0-9 against Monarch since April of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The Hawks will head out to take on the Coyotes at 6:00 p.m. Horizon is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.

Horizon is coming into the matchup fresh off a high-scoring shootout with Silver Creek that saw the pair combine for 17 shots on goal. The Hawks walked away with a 4-2 win over the Raptors on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Frederick kept up with Monarch until halftime on Tuesday, but afterwards: not so much. The Coyotes blew past the Golden Eagles 6-0. Considering Monarch's offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

They hit Frederick with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Paloma Mellish (3), Mollie Poniatowski, Hailey Paddock, and Sammy Olsen.

Horizon's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 11 goals over those three games. As for Monarch, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-5-1.

Horizon couldn't quite get it done against Monarch in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 as they fell 3-1. Can the Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
