The South Point Pointers will take on the Johnson Central Golden Eagles at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. South Point is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
South Point took a 11-run loss the last time they faced off against Rock Hill, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Pointers beat the Redmen on Friday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 3-2. While the Pointers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Kota Copley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Saratina Jackson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
Meanwhile, the third road match was the charm for Johnson Central, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They walked away with a 10-5 win over Russell on Friday.
Keylee Blair made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Johnson Central got a massive performance out of Josie Dials, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave Dials a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mayson Delong, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Johnson Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .585. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Johnson Central has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for South Point, they pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. South Point hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .356. However, it's not like Johnson Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .342. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
